Shaun’s Experience Growing Up as LBGTQI2S:

“Everyone’s story is different but for me, I remember growing up with a sense of shame and guilt. I felt as though there was something wrong with me. I didn’t know anyone who was gay and I had no support. No one to tell me that what I was feeling was indeed… fine. There was no one to tell me that there was nothing wrong with me or how I was feeling.

It was a long while before I came to accept myself for who I am. I came out later than most after navigating waters on my own. Coming out to family and friends was difficult, but as soon as I did it, I was met with love and support that I couldn’t ever imagine. It didn’t take me long to realize that I was missing out on so much support over the years, and that I should have come out sooner.

Today, I am happily partnered for over 10 years. We own a beautiful home north of the city and love to travel and explore the world together. We live life to the fullest and we’re surrounded by happiness. Life is great!”
